This past March the Lady Bulldog Soccer Team ended their season with a qualification to playoffs. This was no easy feat, captain of the team, Lily Rusteberg, says getting ready for the season was a lengthy process that required work and time to create bonds that worked well on the field. The team agreed that they would work hard, do their part, and take initiative to take the team the next mile.

When asked about the games of their season, players agreed that their game against Lamar was one of the most impactful. The game started off close for both halfs, and ended with a 0-0 score, but Lamar took the win with a final penalty shootout. “Our game against Lamar stood out to me, before I had never lost to Lamar…the unbalanced effort on the team created a divide on the field, and I really wish we would’ve played harder,” says Lily. Results like such gave the team chances for reflection and the opportunity to change their course of action for future games. As time went along, the team was able to solidify defensive and attacking tactics as well as move onto more demanding practices. This growth brought some notable victories against schools like Pasadena Memorial, Cypress Lakes, Westbury, Chavez, and more.

The team ended their season with high placement on the 6A Region 3 District 18 table, granting them a pass to playoffs. Their path to such achievement involved difficulties such as tight schedules, the involvement of separate club teams, and recovery from injuries. Nonetheless, the team completed their season and persevered through these challenges.

Though their playoff season ended early, it was a huge achievement that only some teams can even wish to have. The team understands that they can definitely come back and make it further, this motivation fuels many of the player’s spirits for returning next year or working after their high school soccer involvement ends. The end of the season forced the team to say their goodbyes to some of their longest involved players, the roster will change next year, but the same goal stands.

Many girls plan on coming back to play for our Bulldog Soccer Team. The team aims to play with even more heart and intensity next season. Filled with lessons on self-realization, reflection, and commitment, we look forward to what the next season may bring.
